Most monthly events have an email list, to which is sent additional planned activity details beyond what is in the VSDC newsletter and website. Events with all details in the newsletter or website, such as the restaurant visits, don't have such a notification list.
* Attendance at VSDC board planning meetings must be arranged with VSDC at least one week in advance, and can be restricted.
A list of the organizers of these activities is on our coordinators list page.
All are welcome to attend VSDC events. * Although all activities are vegetarian friendly, and a source of support in being and becoming vegetarian, we understand people are at different places on different paths to a plant-based diet, or are only considering any changes.
Location addresses are usually in the events calendar, although it is sometimes omitted for the privacy of the host when an event is in someone's home. Sometimes we'll only include that information in our monthly newsletter mailed to members, or by email. When no address is given, we mention the general area, and you'll get details after you RSVP.
RSVP to attend when requested in the event notice, such as for events where the number of people attending needs to be limited or predetermined, or to protect the privacy of the host.
Changes to VSDC activities, in the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, are announced on the Veg-line at 202-362-VEGY, and sometimes on the calendar page. Gatherings at private homes are not usually canceled, because the host will be there anyway. For events that require an RSVP, we'll contact those people who told us they'd be there and gave us a way to contact them. Any email list VSDC uses to publicize an event will also be notified of any cancellation. In any case, always use your own judgment when deciding whether to travel to an event.
So, why not join us at an event? Besides our monthly social gatherings, we also have educational and outreach activities to share our experiences being and becoming vegetarian.
We request only vegan food be served at VSDC events. By vegan we mean vegetarian food without any ingredients from animals such as meat, egg, and dairy.
To potlucks, please bring also any utensil needed to serve your food. Consider putting an ingredients list near where your food is served. Elsewhere is information about how much food to bring to any potluck. Any other potluck requirements requested by the host or coordinator are mentioned in the event notice. Please follow those too. Examples include foods that are Organic, healthful, minimally processed, fitting a theme, or without certain ingredients. To request your preferences, volunteer to host a VSDC gathering.
