Vegetarian DC events: how to post
Events, to be mentioned on this website, must have extra relevance to people who want to minimize consumption of products from animals, or who want to learn why or how.
The farther away an event is from the DC metropolitan area, the longer the event needs to be. We'll list vegetarian events elsewhere in the world only if someone wants to organize a group traveling together to the event.
Guidelines when submitting notices to us:
- Does the event fit the requirements described above?
- Write the notice from the perspective of an independent reporter, not the event organizer.
- Keep the length within that of event notices here of similar time duration.
- Any graphics must already be on the Internet.
- Email addresses on web pages will receive spam.
- Don't send us files in other than text format (ie, no MS-Word nor Adobe-PDF attachments).
- The first line of each notice is the title; the next line is the date and time.
- Will the event occur only once, or does it occur on a regular basis?
In your notice, include the following as appropriate:
- Event description and organizer
- Links to more information on the web
- Event location with zip code
- Directions via public transportation
- Admission fee
- Whether advance registration is required
All food, if any, must be vegan. Therefor, honey, dairy, gelatin, and eggs are not allowed.
We prefer to only post vegan, rather than all vegetarian, events for four reasons:
- Reduce the number of events listed and therefor also the workload of volunteers maintaining this website.
- Increase the audience to which the events are applicable, because vegetarians can eat vegan food.
- Obtain the additional benefits of avoiding non-vegan food.
- A lot of cheese contains rennet, and
milk contains vitiman D, both often derived from animal parts.
Some examples of events are: open house, volunteer party, vegan potluck, vegan day, cooking class, and lecture.
To publicize an event fitting our requirements, send a description to VSDC for consideration.
After events are posted on VSDC's website, you may suggest changes to it.
Besides this website, VSDC also publishes a printed bimonthly newsletter containing notices, advertisements, and articles.
